IBJ was named the best large-market business journal and collected five other awards at the Alliance of Area Business
Publications' summer conference June 23 in Denver.

Judges from the University of Missouri's School of Journalism evaluated 772 entries from 59 publications, including papers
in Los Angeles, New York and Chicago. All told, 89 gold, silver or bronze awards were handed out.

IBJ's gold medal winners:

Best newspaper. Judges wrote: "Readers get a lot for their money. The reporting is consistently solid, and the editorial
page is thoughtful. The publication tells you what's important and why it's important, with writing that cuts to the
chase. … All-around, this is an intelligent publication."

Best investigative reporting for "Poor Priorities," former reporter Tom Murphy's Nov. 20 examination of the
real estate holdings of Center Township Trustee Carl Drummer.

Best explanatory journalism for "Compensation Clash," Associate Editor Andrea Muirragui Davis' April series
on executive pay at local not-for-profits.

Silver medal winners:

Best recurring feature for "Behind the News," Managing Editor Greg Andrews' weekly column.

Best local spin of a national story for "Runway risks," Chris O'Malley's Sept. 18 look at near-miss incidents
at Indianapolis International Airport.

Best feature for "Juicy Prospects," Anthony Schoettle's Aug. 28 profile of tomato-industry heavyweight Red
Gold Inc.

Los Angeles-based AABP represents 74 independent magazine and newspaper members in the United States, Canada and Australia.
