Indiana University will receive donations totaling $10.7 million from the estate of late philanthropist Ruth Lilly, the university announced Wednesday morning.

The donation comes in the form of two gifts—$8 million for the Center on Philanthropy and about $2.7 million for the Herron School of Art and Design.

Lilly, the great-grandchild of pharmaceutical magnate Eli Lilly, died late last year at age 94.

Her gift to the Center on Philanthropy is the biggest the center has received from an individual. It will be used to establish the Ruth Lilly Professorship Program, which will provide matching funds to encourage other donors to create seven to 10 endowed faculty chairs, IU said.

The Herron School will use a portion of its gift to expand its graduate degree programs to include art therapy, ceramics, painting and photography.

Lilly took classes at Herron as a child and later served as a board member.
