As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowFrank and Katrina Basile will give $100,000 toward the purchase and renovation of IndyFringe’s building near Massachusetts and College avenues.
Encouraging work by emerging artists, IndyFringe hosts the annual IndyFringe Festival in August and performances year-round at 719 E. St. Clair St. The building is a former church that the organization has rented since September 2008.
“Katrina and I love that the Fringe supports both emerging and established artists in dance, drama, comedy, cabaret, music, magic and multimedia,” Frank Basile said. “The artists write their own scripts and stage the productions themselves. The role of IndyFringe is to give them a venue to perform, and this building is key,” he said.
With the Basiles’ gift, IndyFringe launched a $600,000 campaign that it hopes to conclude by the end of the year. The renovated and expanded building will be named the Basile Fringe Theatre.
Plans call for capitalizing on the adjacent Cultural Trail with the addition of a lobby, offices and dressing area called the “Trailhead.” A new black-box theater would feature garage-style bays that open to the outdoors.
The architect is Blackline, the firm formerly known as Perkins VonDeylen Architects.
