There’s so much more to food than the next meal.

In a two-year program called “Food for Thought,” Indiana Humanities encouraged Hoosiers to discuss and write about everything from agriculture to cooking.

The two-year program earned a top award in humanities, the Helen and Martin Schwartz Prize, for the innovative way it engaged new audiences in thinking, reading and talking about food. More than 100 organizations partnered with Indiana Humanities to create more than 100 events throughout the state.

Indianapolis-based Indiana Humanities will take on a new theme, “Spirit of Competition.”

“We will address deeper issues using the lens of athletic, political and economic competition,” President and CEO Keira Amstutz said. “By adopting these two-year themes, we hope to encourage innovation within our organization and among our partners, and continue to inspire deeper thought among our constituents about topics that they enjoy.
