Subscribe NowHome builders in the nine-county area filed 408 construction permits in August, a 15-percent increase from the same month a year earlier, according to the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis.
Through the first eight months, building permits in the metropolitan area totaled 2,852, a 10-percent increase from the same period in 2011.
“The August permit increase indicates the consistent trend of improvement in the marketplace,” BAGI CEO Steve Lains said in a prepared statement. “It also shows strong momentum heading into the last quarter of the year.”
Building-permit activity this year jumped 20 percent in both July and May, but dipped 3 percent in June and 2 percent in April. The biggest increase from the previous year, 40 percent, came in February.
August’s strong results were helped by activity in Marion County, where builders filed 68 permits, or 74 percent more than in August 2011.
Permit filings also rose in Hamilton County, to 161, or 32 percent.
Filings increased just 3 percent in Hendricks County, to 68, but fell 17 percent, to 40, in Johnson County.
