The next time you’re shopping and the cashier asks you if you would like to receive e-mail notices of sales and specials, think of Bryan Wade.

The ExactTarget vice president’s specialty is e-mail marketing. Indianapolis-based ExactTarget is a global software provider for marketers. Wade is responsible for the company’s global e-mail strategy, including product development and innovation.

ExactTarget will do $200 million in revenue this year mostly by sending e-mails for the likes of Best Buy and Home Depot; but it also offers mobile, mobile marketing, social and Web services.

“It’s a fun place to work,” said Wade. “The industry is growing really fast.”

When Wade joined ExactTarget in 2005, it had 80 employees. Now, there are about 1,500.

“You can create your own career path in companies like that when they’re small,” said Wade, who previously worked for Eli Lilly and Co. and Braun Consulting.

Wade majored in management information systems at Ball State University. He was in Muncie when the dot-com boom was starting, and technology seemed the field of choice to him.

He and his wife, Michelle, live in Zionsville with their son and daughter. He volunteers as a coach for his children’s sports teams and is involved with the Boys and Girls Club of Zionsville.

His next commitment is to the board of NPower Indiana, a chapter of the nationwide organization being rebranded locally as Tech Ripple, Wade said. It’s a not-for-profit that provides other not-for-profits with low-cost technology infrastructure, “the basic stuff we take for granted at work,” like phone systems, e-mail systems, laptops, he said. The service enables not-for-profits to focus on their mission instead of worrying about why their e-mail system is down or their laptop won’t work.•
