Subscribe NowSingle-family-building permit filings rose 13 percent in the nine-county Indianapolis area in June, the 12th straight month of year-over-year increases, the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis announced Tuesday.
Builders filed 474 permits in June, compared with 419 during the same month a year ago.
Through June this year, 2,603 permits have been issued, an increase of 26 percent compared to the first six months of 2012.
“The June permits increase confirms that the improvement we have been seeing in the local housing market over the past year continues to take place at a gradual and steady pace,” said BAGI CEO Steve Lains in a prepared statement.
Hamilton County saw a 15-percent increase in permits, with 169 in June. Filings were up 21 percent in Johnson County, to 64. They rose 57 percent in Boone County, to 58.
Permits fell 22 percent in Marion County, to 56. Hendricks County saw an 11-percent decrease, to 59.
Despite recent improvement, home construction in the area significantly lags pre-recession activity. Nearly 1,000 permits were filed locally in June 2006, more than double current numbers.
