Fifth Third helping to educate fifth-graders

December 21, 2013

Fifth Third Bank is opening another branch, but this one isn’t for the public.

The branch will be at Junior Achievement’s BizTown complex, at 74th Street and Keystone Avenue, a hands-on learning simulation for fifth-graders.

The students work in small groups to run businesses and act as producers and consumers. BizTown gives them experience earning paychecks, managing checking accounts, paying taxes and seeking loans.

Fifth Third’s local president, Nancy Huber, said the bank is awarding $60,000 to JA to create the student bank.

The JA program involving more than 17,000 central Indiana students also has received corporate support from companies such as Eli Lilly and Co., Indianapolis Power & Light, Defender Direct, FedEx, Radio Disney and Sharp Business Systems.
