The once-blighted corner of 71st Street and Binford Boulevard continues to attract redevelopment attention, thanks in large part to the efforts of neighborhood group Binford Redevelopment And Growth, or BRAG. KrogerDevelopers plan to break ground next week on a $12-million Kroger-anchored shopping center at the intersection’s northwest corner. And Starbucks has filed plans for the intersection’s southeast corner.

The details: The 86,000-square-foot Kroger will replace an old CVS and Sullivan’s Hardware. A shopping center next door (shown here) will get a complete makeover. A new Maaco auto paint shop behind the center will replace an old car wash. And a Kroger fuel center will replace an abandoned Burger King. At the intersection’s southeast corner, youth fitness center PowerKidz is slated to open this weekend in a renovated strip center that now has an Entenmann’s Bakery, George’s Restaurant and Bar and Shadeland Flower. That center also will be getting a Great Clips and a Sprint. A new CVS and Fifth Third bank opened this year. Developers include Landmark Properties and Douglas Realty Advisors.
