As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowIndiana University is working with a not-for-profit group to create a center in downtown Columbus that will teach art and design to IU students and Columbus-area residents.
The Indiana University Center for Art and Design-Columbus is expected to operate starting in the 2011-2012 school year. The center will offer upper-level classes for students getting degrees in programs such as graphics design, interior design or fashion. Columbus residents also can take the classes but will not earn IU credit.
IU President Michael McRobbie says the school wanted to locate the center in Columbus to take advantage of the Indiana city's unique architecture and commitment to the arts. IU is working with the Community Education Coalition of Columbus to establish the design center.
