The PeyBack Foundation made its largest grant distribution to date, with $800,000 going to 147 organizations in Indiana, Louisiana and Tennessee.

The foundation’s level of giving is largely driven by personal contributions from its founder and president, Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning, Executive Director Elizabeth Ellis said.

This year’s awards were double the 2010 distribution.

“The mission and work of the PeyBack Foundation is something we are very passionate about, and to be able to continue our growth through increased giving is very rewarding,” Manning said in a prepared statement.

Manning, a four-time MVP, is one of the highest-paid players in NFL history. The contract he signed in 2004 was valued at $98 million.

Manning’s foundation focuses on disadvantaged young people. Indianapolis-based organizations that received the highest granted amount of $10,000 were Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Central Indiana, Boy Scouts of America, the Concord Center and the Mary Rigg Neighborhood Center.

Seventy-one charities in Indiana received a total of $361,000.

The PeyBack Foundation has granted $5.5 million since its inception in 1999. Information about the 2012 application process will be available in September at www.peytonmanning.com.
