Michael Becher, the longtime managing partner of Deloitte LLP’s Indianapolis office, will retire June 1, the New York-based accounting firm said on Wednesday.

Becher’s career at Deloitte spans 36 years, including 20 years as the local office’s leader.

Located in Chase Tower, Deloitte is the city’s fifth-largest accounting firm based on number of certified public accountants employed, according to IBJ statistics. The firm has 69 CPAs and 139 employees.

The firm named Mary Boelke to replace Becher. She earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Indiana University and will be relocating from Dallas to Indianapolis with her husband and two children. Boelke practiced for nine years at Deloitte’s local office before serving as tax managing partner at the firm’s San Jose and Dallas locations.

“As a native Hoosier, it’s an honor to return to my deep roots in Indiana to lead our practice,” she said in a prepared statement. “I’m eager to build on our success under Mike’s leadership and to continue to develop our talent, enhance our brand in the marketplace and maintain our commitment to the Indianapolis communities.”

Among the Indianapolis-area's 20 largest accounting firms, Boelke will be one of two female managing partners. The other is Anita Sherman, who serves as co-managing partner with Larry Greenwalt at Greenwalt CPAs Inc.

Becher, 59, said will remain active on several business and civic boards of directors, including the United Way of Central Indiana, the Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, Marian University and the Boy Scouts of America Crossroads of America Council.
