As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowMargot Lacy Eccles, a longtime Indianapolis philanthropist and business leader, died Monday at age 76, according to a statement from LDI Ltd.
Eccles was vice president of community and shareholder relations and member of the board for LDI, which was co-founded by her grandfather, Howard Lacy.
She played a key role in developing the well-known Stanley K. Lacy Executive Leadership Series, which was founded in 1976.
Through the program, Eccles played a key role in "encouraging young professionals … to become more informed about the issues and needs facing central Indiana and more engaged in the community," Scott Miller, president of the Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce, said in a statement.
Eccles served in numerous not-for-profit and civic roles during her life, including as a member of the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee, the Franklin College Board of Trustees, the Indiana Symphony Society, the Spirit & Place Advisory Board at The Polis Center and the Urban Design Oversight Committee.
She was was also a member of the Heartland Film Festival Board of Governors, the Indiana Black Expo Cultural Gala Committee, and the Race and Cultural Relations Leadership Network Committee.
She created and sponsored the annual "Young Playwrights in Process" program to encourage students from 6th grade to 12th grade to write plays.
Eccles' life will be celebrated at an event Friday at the Hilbert Circle Theater.
