A group of 10 landowners has proposed annexing about 30 acres of property stretching from the southeast corner of Lapel to Pendleton, the Herald Bulletin reported.
Lapel leaders say they support the idea.
Anderson Mayor Kevin Smith wants to annex about 17 square miles of land southwest of his city's limits to create an economic development corridor reaching south to Interstate 69 exit 214.
Smith's plan would be the largest annexation in 50 years. Many residents oppose it for fear schools, libraries and other agencies would lose property tax revenue.
