You-review-it Monday: Emerging from the snow

For me, the weekend would have included the Phoenix Theatre's local premiere of "Tribes." But the show sold out all of its weekend shows. Which is a very good thing because full-houses mean more stability for arts organizations which means more freedom to make interesting choices. I'll certainly try to catch it this week.

I also found a crowded house at the IRT for Dance Kaleidoscope's Gershwin-fueled "American Rhapsody," which I'll be writing about soon. Afterwards, I trudged through Fountain Square slush for the monthly Noise! open mic at the White Rabbit Cabaret, whose highlights included Claire Wilcher's rendition of ":Walking in Memphis" and Brent Marty's "Send in the Clowns" (both ignoring the stated New York theme for the evening's after hours show).

The easy read dealt with (but didn't sensationalize) his cocaine bust but focused primarily on his life as a working actor. It made me look seriously at planning a trip to Washington D.C. to see him as Falstaff this Spring at the Shakespeare Theatre in both parts of "Henry IV."

And you? Did you catch up on holiday movie releases? Squeeze into the Phoenix? Experience some other A&E?
