Indiana Gov. Mike Pence announced $9.7 million in grants for 10 organizations working to help support teacher recruitment and training in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math.

“Continuing to recruit top educators and expand our students’ options will only enhance the outstanding work of our teachers, but also help our students as they make decisions about future career opportunities,” Pence said Wednesday.

STEM jobs are expected to increase by more than 115,000 positions by the year 2018.

Pence announced the grants at a meeting of the Indiana Career Council.

The organizations receiving grants are Teach for America, Woodrow Wilson Indiana Teaching Fellowship Program, Independent Colleges of Indiana, University of Southern Indiana Foundation, Indiana Association of Career & Technical Education Directors, Conexus, Indiana After School Network, Hamilton Southeastern School Corp. Foundation, Purdue University Research Foundation: Agricultural Science, and Project Lead the Way.

The grants ranged from $173,250 for the Purdue University Research Foundation to $3.7 million for the Woodrow Wilson Indiana Teaching Fellowship Program.
