More than the Super Bowl, more than the Oscars, the one televised event I look forward to most each year is the Kennedy Center Honors. Each year, the D.C.-based cultural center not only picks five artists or groups with significant careers in the arts, but it also creates celebratory performances for each.

This year, the event will be even more significant to Hoosiers with the inclusion of David Letterman among the honorees. By my count, the last Indiana-connected artist to be on the list was 2008's Twyla Tharp. This puts Letterman in the esteemed comedic company of Mel Brooks, Steve Martin, Victor Borge, and Bill Cosby.

And, FYI, Johnny Carson made it in 1993. Leno? Nope.

The performance will take place at the Kennedy Center on Dec. 2 with the program airing Dec. 26 on CBS.
