Harry Connick Jr., Yo-Yo Ma, Ira Glass and Lech Walesa in Palladium lineup

The Center for the Performing Arts will be kicking off its fifth season with an Aug. 6 concert by Harry Connick Jr.

He's not the only junior in the lineup, though. Frank Sinatra Jr. will appear as part of the Songbook Series. Also on tap: Vikki Carr, Ann Hampton Callaway and Michael Feinstein/Cheyenne Jackson. The one I'm most excited about seeing, though, is the least known–Denzal Sinclaire. When Sinclaire appeared at the Songbook Gala in 2014, his tribute to Nat King Cole led me to write that he "managed to put truth into every syllable with a sound that sent me running to YouTube as soon as I got home. I can’t recall a time when I so quickly became a fan of a performer. Here’s hoping he finds his way here for a full concert soon." Well, he has. And I'm excited even though it's a year away.

The Classical Series features headliners Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, and Jeremy Denk, along with the Cleveland Orchestra, the Royal Philhamonic Orchestra with Pinchas Zukerman, and the Polish Baltic Philharmonic Orchesta with, yes, former Poland President Lech Walesa.

Jazz translates to concerts by The Bad Plus with Joshua Redman, Regina Carter/Kenny Barron, Ramsey Lewis Quartet, John Scofield/Joe Lovano Quartet, Christian McBride Big Band, and SFJAZZ Collective.

On the country front, there's Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers, Tanya Tucker, Ronnie Milsap (on his farewell tour), Roseanne Cash, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and The Oak Ridge Boys.

Dance companies include Ailey II, Alonzo King LINES Ballet, and Compania Flamenca Jose Porcel.

Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn team up, as do Patty Griffin, Sara Watkins and Anais Mitchell. Gordon Lightfoot gets a solo show for his 50th anniversary tour as does Under the Streetlamp.

Ira Glass will be here with his "Re-Inventing the Radio" show. Dave Koz, Wynonna, and Jim Brickman offer holiday programs. the World Stage Series includes Bollywood Masala Orchestra, Celtic Nights, and Silk Road Ensemble.  And the kids get Dan Zanes, Disney's Choo-Choo Soul" and more.
