Plum’s Upper Room has served its last meal.

Owner Jayne Nolting closed the restaurant on Zionsville’s Main Street this week, posting a note to friends and patrons on the door.

“Opening my first café, here, in 1988, marked the beginning of a fabulous journey that I will fondly remember,” she wrote. “It has been my pleasure to serve you.”

In an email to IBJ, Nolting said she is retiring after 27 years of serving others.

Plum’s occupied second-floor space in the former Clark’s Opera House, built in 1870. Its seasonal menu featured “slow cooked” dishes sourced locally, according to the still-functioning website.

The restaurant made Indianapolis Monthly’s 2013 list of the area’s 25 Best Restaurants—one of just four suburban standouts.

Chef Jeremiah Clark left for another kitchen gig this spring, according to EatDrinkIndy.com’s Jolene Ketzenberger.

The news is better for fans of tacos and tequila. Zionsville restaurateur Shari Jenkins has opened Tex-Mex newcomer Salty Cowboy at 55 E. Oak St., just down the street from her Noah Grant’s Grill House & Oyster Bar.

The family-friendly eatery has outdoor seating and a bright, welcoming bar featuring an extensive selection of tequila. In addition to the Mexican fare, the menu includes Texas-style barbecue.
