The city of Fishers has hired an Indianapolis-based certified public accounting and consulting firm to help integrate new financial and budgeting software.

The three-year contract with Katz, Sapper & Miller LLP will cost the city up to $2.1 million, which includes incentive pay for reaching certain milestones.

The firm will “advise, guide, drive, and support the city’s modernization of business systems,” according to the agreement.

Mayor Scott Fadness said it’s a project he started about six months ago to upgrade the city’s financial systems, which he described as “antiquated.” The city currently uses Microsoft Excel for budgeting.

KSM will advise the city on software and program selection, integrate the new program throughout the city’s existing systems, re-engineer the city’s business processes and help build IT capacity.

“This is a major, major undertaking for our organization,” Fadness said.

The Fishers Board of Public Works approved the contract Thursday morning.
