Busy Keystone Avenue ramps to close for construction

Two ramps at the busy interchange of Keystone Avenue and Interstate 465 on Indianapolis’ northeast side closed Wednesday morning as part of a massive reconstruction of the roadways.

The Indiana Department of Transportation expects the interchanges to be closed from seven to 15 days.

Motorists traveling north on Keystone will not have ramp access to eastbound I-465, and those traveling east on I-465 will be unable to exit onto northbound Keystone, INDOT said. Eastbound I-465 traffic, however, will continue to have ramp access to southbound Keystone.

The ramp closures will enable contractor Rieth-Riley Construction Co. Inc. of Goshen to finish construction of southbound lanes on the west side of Keystone.

The $18.2 million Major Moves project is reconstructing the Keystone/I-465 interchange as a partial cloverleaf to reduce traffic congestion. The project includes more travel lanes—one in each direction on Keystone—plus added turn lanes extending from 96th to 98th streets.
