Daniels: Indiana added more jobs than thought in 2011

Back to TopCommentsE-mailPrint

Gov. Mitch Daniels is saying Indiana's jobs picture was much better last year than previously thought.

Daniels said Monday that the state is set to release new data showing that 43,000 jobs were added in the private sector last year. The Bureau of Labor Statistics originally stated Indiana added 27,000 jobs.

Daniels said the new numbers for 2011 will show Indiana "outperformed the country significantly" in job creation. Still, the state's unemployment rate has hovered around 9 percent for the last few months while the national rate has crept down to 8.3 percent.

Daniels made his comments during a press conference about the 2012 legislative session. He also says the statewide smoking ban passed last week was the best that could get done given the opposition to it.

I am surprised that more people are not upset. Our State Government suddenly finds $300 Million that went unaccounted for, and now 70% more jobs than originally accounted for, or forgotten. Who is in charge of our money and statewide negotiations with companies proposing to bring more jobs to Indiana? As for the accounting aspects of State Government, I wonder what the private sector could bring to the table when it comes to auditing and balancing the general fund? As for jobs, I would like to see the banks lending money to small business ventures that will create jobs. I am really disappointed with the current state of affairs at the top of Indiana Government, and I find bankers to be less honest than politicians.

missing $300,000,000 in tax revenues ? which is it 27,000 or 43,000?

just like all those lies and unwillingness to share employment data to Channel 13 when Mitch Roob was running that scam of a state economic agency.
  • Fuzzy Math
Suddenly 70% more jobs are accounted for? Did those folks pay Indiana Taxes?

  5. I remenber, watching the toll road, being built, through South Bend, when I was 10 years old. I believe, back then that it was estimated, that the toll road, would be paid for in 20 years and then it would be free. I am now 71, what happened? Since the power is in the people, by that, I mean that, we the people are in total control of everything. I, suggest that no one ever use the toll road again, let it go broke. We the people can control the price of everything, from groceries to gas, if we would just do it. If we don't pay the asking price, the sellers will lower the price and if we wait awhile, they will lower the price to what we accept as reasonable. I would like to know why a highway like interstate 94, is so well maintained, a much better highway, than the toll road, but has no tolls. I would also like to know why, a sitting governor, with a term limit, maximum of eight years, can lease, public property, for 75 years. Even though I have transponders in both of my trucks and will not be affected by the increase, I have been and will contine to avoid using the toll road. I make many trips from northern Indiana to Chicago, every year, and I prefer the better highway, I94!
