Construction is in the blood of Mamon Powers III. In 1967, the eldest Mamon Powers, whose father had worked in construction, founded Powers & Sons Construction Co. Mamon Powers Jr., now the company’s CEO, joined four years later. And Mamon Powers III serves as vice president in charge of the Indianapolis office.

Among his major achievements: a joint venture with CRG Residential on the Blackburn Terrace and Twin Hills family-housing projects, and teaming with local company Shiel Sexton Co. Inc. to manage demolition of the RCA Dome and construction of the expanded Indiana Convention Center.

Mamon Powers III went to work for the family business after graduating from Tri-State University (now Trine) in Angola, but decided he wanted more education and a better foundation. So he quit to get his MBA at Purdue University, from which he graduated in 2005. “To me, it was like boot camp, so that was really my proudest time,” he said. “I think it’s given me a good foundation for what I do every day.”

Afterward, he took a job with Kansas City-based J.E. Dunn Construction—“I thought it would be good to get experience somewhere else and live somewhere else”—before returning to Powers & Sons.

In his off-hours, in addition to spending time with his fiancée, Powers serves as secretary for the John H. Boner Community Center board.

“It’s my opportunity to give back to the community and make a difference,” he said. “… We’ve teamed up with the Super Bowl Committee, so we’re doing some good things to develop the community on the near-east side.”

But ultimately, his heart is in construction.

“What I like about construction is, at the end of the day, seeing something that will be there for years to come,” he said.•

  4. The question is, where could they build a new stadium? It seems in the past year, all the prime spots have been spoken for with potential projects. Maybe in the industrial wasteland area a block past Lucas Oil? I think it needs to be close to the core, if a new stadium is built.

  5. Aldi is generally a great shopping experience. Still, I'm sure YOU wouldn't want to shop there, which I consider a positive.
