Three Carmel residents have bought the Glass Chimney and Deeter's restaurants, both of which are dining fixtures in Hamilton County.

The restaurants' owner, Dieter Puska, said in January that he planned to retire and close both establishments on April 26, although he left open the possibility that someone might buy them. At the time,
industry experts doubted any buyer would attempt to carry on Puska's creation.

But new owners James Roudebush, Judith Roudebush and Corbin Roudebush intend to do just that. Financial terms were not disclosed.

"We plan to continue the excellent tradition Dieter started 32 years ago," James Roudebush said. "It's something that needs to be preserved."

No changes are planned, Roudebush said. The trio - James and Corbin are brothers; Judith and Corbin are married - plan to spend time getting to know the patrons and learn the business side of the two restaurants. The restaurants are at 12901 Old Meridian St. in Carmel.

It is the first restaurant endeavor for the new owners. James and Corbin Roudebush own Roudebush Brothers LLC, a real estate company that owns mostly farmland. Corbin Roudebush, an endocrinologist, owns Diabetes Innovations LLC. Both businesses are based in Carmel.

Restaurant industry veterans know The Glass Chimney for its white-linen tablecloths, servers in formal attire, and distinctive European cuisine. The structure, built as a house in the 1930s, has had two additions over the years.

In 1976, Puska bought the restaurant, which had operated as a tea room under the same name. Deeter's is a more casual restaurant next door to the Glass Chimney.

The roughly 24 employees are staying.
