As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowI expect to be among the crowd flocking to downtown on May 11 to celebrate the completion of the Indianapolis Cultural Trail. And why not? This is a great amenity for the city and it deserves a big bash to kick things off.
But as much as the big event—which includes activities all along the downtown wraparound—will draw attention, the real value of the trail is in its day-to-day use. You won’t need a special event to take a Saturday bike ride, walk instead of drive to Mass Ave, or take a midday constitutional from your center-city office.
While I’ve been bullish on the Cultural Trail, I realized recently that I haven’t actually walked it—at least, not all of it.
So I decided to change that. What I found was that, while it traverses the flat landscape of downtown, the trail does have its highs and lows. (More of the former than the latter.)
