Purdue said in a news release Monday that the first-year retention rate this year is more than 92 percent, and the second-year rate is just over 86 percent. That compares with rates of 91 percent and 84 percent the previous school year.
The four-year graduation rate has risen from 46.8 percent to nearly 50 percent, and the six-year rate is nearly 74 percent compared to about 71 percent the previous school year.
Purdue says the increased success rates are due largely to efforts at recruiting and providing financial aid for students who are prepared for the school's academic challenges.
This also is the eighth consecutive year that first-year students have increased in test scores and preparedness.
