As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowAlex Slabosky, the head of Indiana University Health Plans, is retiring and has been replaced by Treasurer Ryan Kitchell, the Indianapolis-based hospital system announced Tuesday morning.
For 20 years, Slabosky oversaw the M-Plan health maintenance organization, of which IU Health owned about 87 percent. After M-Plan wound down in 2008, Slabosky continued to oversee the Medicare Advantage plan controlled by IU Health.
More recently, Slabosky had pitched IU Health Plans as a health plan other employers could join or as a provider of services that would help employers with their worker health benefits. But those offerings had yet to gain much traction in the marketplace.
“We thank Alex for making IU Health Plans what it is today and wish him the best in his retirement,” said IU Health CEO Dan Evans in a prepared statement.
Kitchell came to IU Health in 2010 after serving as Gov. Mitch Daniels’ director of the Office of Management and Budget. He holds a degree in economics from Indiana University and an MBA from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College.
In addition to running IU Health Plans, Kitchell will continue his management of IU Health’s treasury and real estate departments.
