A central Indiana casino official said 13 workers have been laid off because of slower business amid more competition from Ohio casinos.

Hoosier Park Racing & Casino vice president Jahnae Erpenbach said the Anderson casino made the job cuts through a reduction in staff and by combining and changing responsibilities among its about 1,000 employees. Workers who lost their jobs were offered severance packages or outplacement services, she said.

Hoosier Park reported a 3-percent drop in gambling revenue through the first 11 months of 2013, from $17.5 million to less than $17.1 million. Indiana's 13 casinos reported a total drop in revenue of 8 percent.

Erpenbach told The Herald Bulletin that customers won't be affected by the changes made in staffing levels. She said future hiring at the casino will depend on its business success.
