IU has launched another energy research center, this time the Center for Research in Energy, administered by the School of
Public and Environmental Affairs, in Bloomington.
One focus likely to be a hot topic in coming years is carbon sequestration—taking carbon dioxide that otherwise would be released
into the heavens and sending it down into the earth. The center plans to look at the scientific, economic, legal and regulatory
aspects of sequestration.
Sequestration is a dirty word among some environmentalists. Duke Energy is already taking heat from Citizens Action Coalition
and other groups for sequestration plans at its coal gasification plant under construction in Edwardsport.
Just last month, IU, Purdue University and IUPUI launched the Indiana Consortium for Research in Energy Systems, at IUPUI.
