www.gazellewebandconsulting.comFounded: December 2006 Owner: Brandon Lott Owner's background: Lott, 33, grew up in the south side of Indianapolis and graduated from Indiana University in 1998 with a health care degree. He went to New York in 2005 to work as an operations manager for retailer Alan Flusser Custom Shop, but returned to Indiana in 2006. Since then, he has helped several startup companies-including businesses in finance, planning and real estate. Why started business: When he moved back to Indiana, Lott said he noticed that entrepreneurs needed assistance getting their companies going. Given his experience, he thought he could offer help-particularly to retail, health care and life science startups. His company does two things. In addition to consulting with companies to determine how to make them successful, Gazelle is beginning to do Web work for its clients, too.

Competitive advantage: Entrepreneurs can help entrepreneurs, Lott said, and he's in a good position to do that since a lot of the people starting businesses are in his age bracket. He said he also has an advantage because he is always accessible to deal with problems as they arise. His focus and background are other benefits.

Startup cost: $5,000

Funding source: personal capital

Projected first-year revenue:

$100,000

Potential problem and contingency plan: Lott often sees companies stumble when they try to take on too many projects too soon. He said he hopes to manage his growth by focusing on his specialties of health care and life sciences. For now, he's content to build his brand and make a name for himself and his business.

First-year goal: Lott said he hopes to form partnerships with business incubators so that he can have more resources to provide clients both on the IT and financial side. He said he would like to have four or five corporate startup clients.

Five-year vision: Eventually, Lott would like to be recognized as a Midwest leader in promoting entrepreneurs and assisting small businesses, with a focus on the life sciences.
