Is Indy the new Oz?

That’s a question Newsweek posed Nov. 8 when it listed Indianapolis among the 10 American cities best situated for economic recovery.

Also making the list were other spots “where the jobs are plentiful, and the pay, given the lower cost of living, buys more than in bigger cities.” According to the story, “Greetings From Recoveryland,” those include cities such as Austin, Texas; Salt Lake City; Raleigh-Durham, N.C.; and Des Moines, Iowa.

Indianapolis was noted for its abundance of affordable housing and population growth at 50 percent higher than the national average. The story also describes “an aggressively pro-business attitude” that has helped grow jobs in areas such as life sciences and motorsports.
