Develop Indy, Marion County's local economic development organization, plans to lead a delegation of officials to Australia from Feb. 18 to Feb. 27 to attract life sciences-related business opportunities, the group announced Friday morning.

The delegation will meet with executives, university representatives and government officials in Sydney and Melbourne.

"Australia is a global leader in the life sciences industry with hundreds of companies producing highly-innovative technological and manufacturing solutions for medical devices, pharmaceuticals, and other products,” said Scott Miller, CEO of Develop Indy, in a prepared statement. “We think there are real opportunities for international partnerships in research and development and the potential to recruit Australian firms to Indianapolis."

Members of the delegation include Nancy Langdon of Develop Indy; Bryce Bennett Jr. of the law firm Riley Bennett & Egloff LP; Bob Chew, president of Commissioning Agents Inc.; and Quake Pletcher, executive director of Hoosier Oncology Group.

Develop Indy said the trip will be paid for with private donations.
