As a subscriber you can listen to articles at work, in the car, or while you work out. Subscribe NowIndiana University says continuing financial pressures have led to the planned closing of its School of Continuing Studies, which serves about 4,000 students around the state.
The school opened in 1975 and gives non-traditional and other students evening and online learning opportunities. It also has non-degree and continuing education courses for older students.
President Michael McRobbie announced the move Wednesday and said the university will save up to $4 million through the cut. He said most of the savings will be at its main campus in Bloomington. The school is to close by June 30, 2012.
The university says degrees currently offered at the school will be moved to other schools on its campuses, and students will be shifted as well.
