Gary Vaynerchuk, an angel investor highly regarded in startup circles, touted Indianapolis in a recent episode of “Next Wave with Gary Vaynerchuk,” the recurring video segment for News Corp.’s The Daily newspaper for i-Pads.
In the episode, Vaynerchuk, who is best known for launching Wine Library TV, a daily video blog about wine, identified cities outside of California’s Silicon Valley that are brimming with technology startups. In addition to Indianapolis, he touted New York; Boston; Chicago; Boulder, Colo.; and Austin, Texas.
He pointed out highly successful websites and technology startups produced in each location. For Indianapolis, he called out popular social media question-and-answer site Formspring.me. The site was founded in Indianapolis but since has moved to San Francisco.
Vaynerchuk said he expects to see more activity from those cities in the years ahead.
“Technology is no longer stuck to a little part of California,” Vaynerchuk said in the video. “I think this is going to be the major trend of 2012 in tech. We’ll probably see two to four major startups come from places, maybe even in Middle America.”
