An Indiana trade delegation led by Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman is on its way to Japan after being delayed by a typhoon.

The group of state, local and business leaders left Indianapolis Wednesday and is expected to arrive in Tokyo Thursday. The trip was delayed because of Typhoon Roke. Roke struck the shores of Tokyo Wednesday morning.

The group plans to meet with executives from Subaru and Toyota. Skillman is scheduled to deliver the keynote address at the Midwest U.S.-Japan Association conference.

Representatives from the Indiana Economic Development Corp., Duke Energy and regional economic development groups are part of the delegation. Japanese companies employ more than 38,000 people in Indiana.

Skillman also plans to deliver an earthquake relief check from Speedway High School to the mayor of Motegi.
