Sunright America Inc., a Japanese manufacturer of automotive fasteners, announced Monday morning that it plans to add 100 jobs at its Columbus plant by 2014.

The company will nearly double its current space, by expanding it from 170,000 square feet to 320,000 square feet. Construction and installation of new equipment is set to begin this fall.

Sunright, which has 93 employees, should begin hiring additional manufacturing, quality and production-control workers once construction is under way.

The Indiana Economic Development Corp. said it will provide Sunright up to $550,000 in performance-based tax credits and up to $200,000 in training grants based on the company’s job-creation plans. The city of Columbus will consider additional property-tax abatements.

“We are thrilled to have a company like Sunright double its size in Columbus,” Mayor Fred Armstrong said in a prepared statement. “The 17 Japanese companies that call Columbus home are very important to us, and Sunright has been a model corporate citizen in our community.”

Incorporated in Indiana in 2002, Sunright manufactures and supplies weld nuts and flange nuts to about 80 customers, including Toyota and Hino. Sunright’s parent company, Sugiura Seisakusho Co. Ltd., is located in Aichi, Japan.
