Subscribe NowA portion of heavily traveled South Street in downtown Indianapolis will be closed through the summer beginning July 9, and lane restrictions will be in effect on Delaware Street as part of a road-improvement project near the CityWay development.
City officials announced the planned closure Tuesday morning.
South Street from Pennsylvania to East streets will be closed, and South Street between Ogden and East streets will be open to local traffic only. In addition, South Street between Pennsylvania and Delaware streets will be open to westbound traffic only during part of the closure.
Delaware Street will remain open, with lane restrictions, as the one-way street is converted to a two-way from Maryland to McCarty streets.
Improvements include street resurfacing, new traffic signals and Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant access ramps, curbs and sidewalks.
The $2.9 million project is scheduled to be completed in December and is funded with proceeds from the $1.9 billion deal to transfer the water and wastewater systems to Citizens Energy Group.
CityWay is a $155 million mixed-use project at Delaware and South streets led by local developer Buckingham Cos.
