Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard on Tuesday announced that he has lifted the city’s nearly 2-month-old restrictions on water usage.

The restrictions took effect July 13 amid historic drought conditions and shrinking water levels in local reservoirs. The mayor's order banned residents from watering lawns, washing cars, filling swimming pools and installing landscaping. Those restrictions officially end at noon Wednesday.

Citizens Energy Group, the utility that recommended the ban, said city residents should still try to conserve water.

Watering of established lawns and trees should be limited to once per week and new sod and seed to Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays only, it recommended.

Citizens also is asking residents not to wash cars or use hoses to clean sidewalks, driveways or other surfaces.

Fishers on Tuesday also lifted a similar conservation order that it imposed July 12, however, the restrictions won't end until Saturday.
