The former superintendent of Franklin Township Schools resigned from his new job after his arrest on a drunken driving charge. Walter Bourke retired from Franklin Township earlier this year and accepted a job as the executive director of the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents. Bourke was in Kendallville on Oct. 21 when police said he rear-ended a vehicle at a stoplight. His blood-alcohol content tested at 0.24 percent, police said. Bourke previously worked at Mt. Vernon Community School Corp. and for Lawrence Township Schools.
