Brian Mahern, vice president of the City-County Council, said Thursday he will not seek the position next year, citing “principled, philosophical differences” with council president and fellow Democrat Maggie Lewis on issues such as economic development and Lewis’ support for a $10 million deal with the Indiana Pacers. Mahern was elected to his first term in 2007 and re-elected in 2011.
