Indianapolis-based trucking carrier Celadon Group Inc. and the state are set to make an announcement Tuesday morning "regarding hundreds of new jobs for Hoosiers," the Indiana Economic Development Corp. said Monday.

A Celadon official did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment, but a source familiar with the deal said the announcement involves a previously announced driver education center.

Celadon told IBJ in January that it planned to build a $5.25 million, 60,000-square-foot driver-training center and add 182 workers to its 633-employee local work force by 2016. The source said the company now plans a $9 million, three-story, 70,000-square-foot center.

The center is planned for a vacant 7.65-acre site in the vicinity of its corporate campus in Warren Township at 9050 E. 33rd St.

The Metropolitan Development Commission approved a seven-year real property-tax abatement for the project worth $205,494 and a personal property-tax abatement worth $7,000.

CEO Paul Will told IBJ that Celadon wouldn’t proceed with the project unless the company also received unspecified incentives from the state. He said Celadon also looked at building the facility in Dallas, but executives preferred Indianapolis.

Gov. Mike Pence and Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard are expected to attend Tuesday's announcement.
