Atterholt was first appointed to the commission by former Gov. Mitch Daniels nearly four years ago and he became chairman on Oct. 5, 2010.
Pence said Atterholt "has demonstrated the kind of character and competence Indiana will need to develop energy policy, create jobs and protect ratepayers."
The Fort Wayne native is a former member of the Indiana General Assembly and the state's former insurance commissioner. He was named utility chief to replace David Lott Hardy, who was fired by Daniels amid an ethics probe involving Duke Energy Corp.
