Ball State proposing 2-percent tuition increase

May 31, 2013

Ball State University officials are proposing a 2-percent tuition increase for each of the next two school years.

University treasurer Randy Howard said the 20,000-student school will face financial challenges even with the tuition boost because during the second year it won't receive an increase in state funding.

The proposed increase will make Ball State's in-state tuition nearly $9,200 for 2013-14 and about $9,300 the following year, the Star-Press reported.

Ball State will have a public hearing on the tuition proposal on Wednesday, with the school's trustees expected to vote on the plan the following day.

BSU's proposed tuition increase is about the same as Indiana University's, while Purdue is freezing tuition at its West Lafayette campus.
