The farmer is seeking a zoning change from the White County commissioners to allow the concentrated animal feeding operation near the 600-acre YMCA Camp Tecumseh.
Camp CEO Scott Brosman told the Journal & Courier that he believes the proposed hog operation is too large and too close to the camp property about 20 miles north of Lafayette that hosts some 35,000 people a year. Thousands of students attend the camp each year, including many from public schools in the Indianapolis area.
Camp leaders worry about possible air- and water-quality problems.
Attorney Joe Bumbleburg says farmer John Erickson is meeting all zoning requirements and is part of a fifth-generation farming family.
County commissioners are scheduled to vote next Monday on the request.
