The director of the Hoosier Lottery is moving to the Indiana Department of Transportation for his second stint as the agency's head.

Gov. Mike Pence announced Wednesday that Karl Browning will serve as his new INDOT commissioner.

Pence's announcement marks a return for Browning, who ran INDOT from 2006-2009. The agency is overseeing work to complete major projects, including the expansion of U.S. 31 and the Interstate 69 extension.

Brandye Hendrickson will continue serving as INDOT's interim commissioner until Browning takes over.

INDOT commissioner Michael Cline stepped down as the agency's chief last month to take a job with former Gov. Mitch Daniels at Purdue University. Numerous Daniels aides have decamped state government over the last few months to work with Daniels on the West Lafayette campus.
