Western Indiana health care system announces cuts

July 19, 2014

The Tribune-Star reported the cuts represent 5 percent of Union Health System's 3,000 employees.

Union announced the cuts in a letter to its employees dated Thursday. The letter from chief executive Pat Board said Union must reduce its costs by an estimated $200 million by 2020 to remain financially strong.

Union Health includes Union Hospital in Terre Haute and Union Clinton Hospital in Vermillion County north of Terre Haute in western Indiana.

Company officials didn't return a phone message left Saturday by The Associated Press.

The Tribune-Star reported administrators plan to release details on cost-cutting measures next week.
