Report: Tourism pumps $10B into state economy

A new state report shows tourism is the sixth-largest industry in Indiana.

The report comes from the Indiana Office of Tourism Development and Lt. Gov. Sue Ellspermann. The economic impact data from 2013 show travel and tourism supports more than 187,000 jobs in Indiana and contributes $10.3 billion in revenue. That’s $200 million more than in 2012.

This is the second time the agency has commissioned the report.

Overall, the report found the travel, tourism and hospitality industry make up 1.5 percent of Indiana’s gross domestic product. The industry accounts for 4.7 percent of the state’s jobs and 6.3 percent of its tax receipts.
