Church-goers fuel 'green congregation' effort

January 19, 2009
Often, they have some of the biggest, most energy-hungry buildings on the block. And it doesn't hurt that their members believe they'll be held accountable in the next life.

Regular church-goers are helping fuel a "green congregations" movement in the city. Some of the latest ideas and accomplishments will be discussed Jan. 31 at the Green Congregations Workshop, at Second Presbyterian Church, 7700 N. Meridian St.

The third annual event, organized by the Hoosier Environmental Council, will include sessions for congregations that want to launch green projects and a more advanced session for those that have already started. Citizens Energy and Indianapolis Power & Light will provide information on energy-efficiency programs.

The registration deadline is Jan. 24, at bhansel@hecweb.org.
