Police say a 31-year-old maintenance worker has died in an apparent accident at a recycling plant in Indianapolis.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department said the incident happened about 1:30 a.m. Thursday at Plastic Recycling Inc.'s facility at 2015 S. Pennsylvania St.

Police were told that the man was apparently trying to unclog a recycling machine when it turned on while he was inside.

The man's name wasn't immediately released. Police are investigating.

The Indianapolis-based company, founded in 1988, specializes in shredding, grinding and converting scrap plastics into usable plastic pellets for various manufacturers.

Plastic Recycling has 200,000 square feet of production space in Indianapolis, a smaller production facility in Jefferson City, Tennessee, and a warehouse in Laredo, Texas.
