which has 283,000 customers in the state, including in Noblesville and Greenwood.
The New Jersey-based company
seeks nearly $47 million in additional annual operating revenue to fund numerous capital improvements.
The proposed
hike would boost average residential water rates in Noblesville to $40.84 a month from $33.68. Greenwood’s rates would
rise $11.26 a month under the company’s proposal.
American’s current base rates were approved in 2007.
The OUCC said it has not yet taken a position on the request but intends to file testimony Oct. 23 with the Indiana
Utility Regulatory Commission.
The OUCC plans a public meeting Oct. 5 in Muncie, where rates would rise about $11.25
a month under the proposed rate plan.
American Water recently proposed buying all or part of Indianapolis Water
Co., in response to a solicitation of ideas by Mayor Greg Ballard on what to do with the city’s water and sewer systems,
which face massive debt and capital improvements. (See story, page 3.) American was among 23 firms filing an expression of
interest with the city.
